Task 1: Oil Transport, Distribution, and Fate

Task1

  • Analysis of hydrocarbon quantity and signatures of source for continental shelf waters and sediments, and for marsh sediments, pore waters and organisms. Principal Investigator: Dr. Ed Overton, Louisiana State University.
  • Development of oceanographic models for the transport of oil from the Macondo well site into Louisiana coastal waters, with an extension of the FVCOM (Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model for the LaTex shelf) grid and extension into the Barataria estuary. Resolving the fine scale landscape features, such as bayous and navigation channels, is essential for modeling of oil transport and entrainment in the Barataria estuary. Principal Investigator: Dr. Dubravko Justić, Louisiana State University.
