Life Along the Edge: measuring the health of the marshes with the help of fishes

The Coastal Waters Consortium (cwc.lumcon.edu) and LUMCON marine education are hosting an event for families with students 12 years old and up.  This event will incorporate outdoor activities and presentations led by CWC scientists  and educators.  Participants will gain insight into the oil spill research currently being done with fishes in Louisiana salt marshes.

Workshop Agenda (subject to change):

8:30-9:00am Participant check-in; Meet and Greet (light refreshments available)
9:30am Presentation: Why We Study the Gulf Killifish
10:00 am Front Pond Collection/Fish ID in the laboratory
11:00am Presentation: How We Measure the “Health” of the Marsh
11:30am LUNCH (provided)
12:00 pm Paddling Trip
3:00pm Wrap-up, evaluations, adjourn
Note:
  • children must be 12 yrs. and up to participate
  • must be accompanied by at least one adult and
  • adults can bring more than one child
